IHC presents a week of programs exploring the environment

Four evening public programs exploring the environment through literature, theater and music will be presented at the College of Idaho in Caldwell as part of the Idaho Humanities Council’s weeklong institute for Idaho teachers exploring environmental literature, July 13-18. NPR Correspondent and Eyes on the Prize Author Juan Williams to Speak in Coeur d’Alene, October 2

Just a month before the presidential election, award-winning writer and National Public Radio and Fox Television news analyst Juan Williams will present the Idaho Humanities Council’s 5th Annual Northern Idaho Distinguished Humanities Lecture, entitled “The Latest from Washington: An Insider’s View,” on Thursday, October 2, 2008, at the Coeur d’Alene Resort. The event includes dinner, lecture, and a book signing. Williams’ books will be available for sale at the event. [ Details ]

IHC to bring ABC News Chief White House Correspondent Martha Raddatz to Boise, October 23

ABC News Chief White House Correspondent Martha Raddatz will be the speaker at the Idaho Humanities Council’s 12th Annual Distinguished Humanities Lecture and Dinner on Thursday, October 23, 2008, at Boise’s Centre on the Grove. The event is made possible in part by the OfficeMax Boise Community Fund with additional support from The Idaho Statesman and Idaho Public Television. Doors open at the Grove at 6:15 p.m. for a no-host reception and silent auction and event will begin at 7:30 p.m. Benefactors are invited to a private reception starting at 5 p.m.  [ Details ]

Lewiston’s Keith Browning Honored for Outstanding Achievement in the Humanities

The Idaho Humanities Council honored former Lewis-Clark State College English Professor Keith Browning, founding editor of Confluence Press, with its 2007 Award for “Outstanding Achievement in the Humanities” at a special reception and presentation ceremony in February at the Lewis-Clark Center for Arts and History in Lewiston. Idaho Humanities Council awards 24 grants at winter meeting

The Idaho Humanities Council, the non-profit, state-based affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, awarded $65,580 in grants to organizations and individuals at its recent board meeting in Lewiston. Twenty-four awards include four Teacher Incentive Grants and 20 public humanities projects.  [ Details ]

Smithsonian exhibit on “fences” to tour Idaho in 2008-2009

The Idaho Humanities Council will bring a new Smithsonian Institution traveling exhibit to six Idaho communities in 2008 and 2009 titled Between Fences.  Through a selection of artifacts, photographs, and illustrations, Between Fences will surprise audiences with its exploration of the multiple meanings behind this everyday icon.
