Just a month before the presidential election, award-winning writer and National Public Radio and Fox Television news analyst Juan Williams will present the Idaho Humanities Council’s 5th Annual Northern Idaho Distinguished Humanities Lecture, entitled “The Latest from Washington: An Insider’s View,” on Thursday, October 2, 2008, at the Coeur d’Alene Resort. The event includes dinner, lecture, and a book signing. Williams’ books will be available for sale at the event.
Tickets are available now by calling the IHC at 888-345-5346. General tickets are $45. Benefactor tickets are $100, offering an invitation to a pre-lecture reception with Williams in a private home and close-up seating at the dinner and lecture. IHC always recommends reserving tickets early as the event can sell out.
Williams is a senior correspondent for National Public Radio, political analyst for Fox Television, and a regular panelist for FoxNews Sunday. As one of the nation’s most influential journalists, Williams is in constant contact with American political leaders, from the President to members of Congress and the Supreme Court. His understanding of American history and his inside access to Washington politics give him a unique and informed voice as an analyst of current events. His perspectives on American politics, race, and culture are based on his historical understanding, political expertise, and knowledge of diversity.
Perhaps best known for his book Eyes on the Prize: America’s Civil Rights Years, 1954-1965 (1988), a companion volume to the award-winning Public Television documentary series of the same name, Williams is a columnist for The Washington Post and the author of four other books, including Enough: The Phony Leaders, Dead-End Movements and Culture of Failure That Are Undermining Black America--and What We Can Do About It (2007), My Soul Looks Back in Wonder: Voices of the Civil Rights Experience (2005), This Far by Faith: Stories from the African American Religious Experience (2003), and Thurgood Marshall: American Revolutionary (2000).
Since 2004, the IHC has brought top historians and authors to Coeur d’Alene for its annual event. Previous speakers include presidential biographer Robert Dallek (2004), western writer Ivan Doig (2005), journalist Susan Orlean (2006), and War Letters author Andrew Carroll (2007).
