Amerikanuak! Basques in the High Desert
Published by the Idaho Humanities Council, 1995 (please include $3.00 for postage and handling; multiple copies are available for classroom use)

This illustrated booklet presents through a number of essays and historic photographs a portrait of the Basque experience in the American West.

Included topics are: Who are the Basques?, Basque Sheepherding, Translating the Culture, Basque Boardinghouses, Basque Pioneer Women, Music and Dance, Changing Images, Beyond Amerikanuak and A Basque Bookshelf.

Idaho and the American West (Large Tabloid)
Published by the Idaho Humanities Council, 1994 (please include $3.00 postage and handling; multiple copies are available for classroom use)

This tabloid was part of IHC's multi-faceted Idaho History Project. The tabloid offers an overview of Idaho history within the context of the larger history of the American West. As overviews, the essays-all written by Idaho scholars--invite readers to consider further reading, and include a brief bibliography of additional readings, suggested by the writers of these essays, on the last page.

Idaho and the American West Curriculum Guide
For elementary and secondary teachers
Published by the Idaho Humanities Council, 1999 (please include $4.00 for shipping and handling)

Teachers at IHC's 1998 teacher institute developed this supplement guide to teaching Idaho history.

It provides lessons such as: Journey to Idaho, Preserving our Heritage, Gulliver's Walks Across Idaho, The Great Seal of Idaho Game, My Town Oral History Project, Idaho History Facts and Trivia and Map Races.

Paradox Politics: Idaho Political History Since WWII
A Study Guide for Teachers
Published by the Idaho Humanities Council, 2002. (please include $2.00 for shipping and handling)

This study guide is a result of IHC's 2002 summer teacher institute Paradox Politics: Idaho Political History Since World War II, held at Albertson College. The guide is based on unit questions from We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution (a publication of the Center for Civic Education).

 

 



Raices Culturales: Cultural Roots, A Model for Integrating Folklife in the Classroom
Published by the Idaho Humanities Council in collaboration with the Idaho Commission on the Arts and the Idaho State Historical Society, 2002. (please include $2.00 for shipping and handling)

This project guide is a result of IHC's 2001 teacher institute Raices Culturales: Cultural Roots, A Model for Integrating Folklife in the Classroom, held at Albertson College. The teachers at the institute created this guide as a way to integrate history and traditions of different cultures in the classroom. Some of the projects include topics such as: Basque Music, Latin American Literature, and Working in the Payette, Idaho Area.
