The IHC offers $1,000 grants to elementary and secondary
teachers to enhance the way they teach the humanities in the classroom.
Funds may be used to bring guest scholars to the classroom, to purchase
curriculum materials, to attend special conferences, or for other innovative
approaches to the teaching of the humanities. Teachers are encouraged
to discuss their ideas with IHC staff prior to submitting grant applications.
Grant awards are made directly to the teacher applicant, not necessarily
to the school. [ Details ]

Outstanding Teachers of the Humanities
Awards
Biennially, the IHC honors two humanities teachers for "Outstanding
Teaching of the Humanities Awards." Teachers must be nominated by their
school principals. This years deadline was November 1 and the
next deadline will be in the fall of 2008 (nomination
guidelines). Recipients of the award are honored by the Council
in a special awards ceremony and receive $1,000 in cash, which the teacher
may use for any purpose. In addition, the winning teacher's school receives
$1,000 to purchase humanities curriculum materials.
