The Idaho Humanities Council, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities located in Boise seeks qualified applicants to two positions: Development and Communications Officer and Program Officer.  Details on each position are below.

Development and Communications Officer

The Idaho Humanities Council, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities located in Boise, Idaho, seeks a full-time (40 hours), Development & Communications Officer.

This position will play a central role in the creation of IHC’s development and communications plan, as well as maintaining strong relations with IHC’s dedicated donor base. The ideal candidate will be service and detail oriented, passionate about engaging with people, and dedicated to IHC’s mission.

Our mission and vision: “For nearly 50 years, the Idaho Humanities Council’s mission has been to provide opportunities to deepen public understanding of human experience by connecting people with ideas. The vision of the IHC is that the humanities inspire a more literate, tolerant and intellectually inquisitive Idaho citizenry, better able to embrace life’s possibilities.” The ideal candidate will support staff in pursuit of these ends.

Salary Range: $55K/year, plus full IHC benefits package (health, dental, vision, and life and disability insurance, retirement plan, and vacation and paid sick leave).

Description:

Reporting to the Executive Director. Duties include:

  • Oversees, implements, and assists in the creation of IHC’s development plan
  • Maintains IHC’s donor database
  • Grant-writing
  • Oversees donor relations
  • Implements and assists in the creation of IHC’s communications plan
  • Edits IHC’s newsletter, Idaho Humanities, which is published 2-3 times per year
  • Monitors and contributes regular postings on IHC’s website and other social media platforms
  • Other duties assigned as needed

Essential skills, duties and responsibilities include:

  • College degree, preferably in a humanities discipline
  • Three years’ experience in development or communications
  • Strong computer skills (Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Zoom, and PowerPoint preferred)
  • Database management experience
  • Experience working with diverse communities, peoples and organizations
  • Service oriented
  • A desire and ability to work independently, move quickly, but deliberately; to share and receive critical feedback
  • This position requires strong communications between staff, board members, donors, partners and the public. Understanding these relationships is critical and excellent communication skills are required.
  • Effective writing and editing skills
  • In-state travel required

IHC’s workday is 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with room for flexibility in employee schedules. The Development & Communications Officer will work both remotely and onsite at IHC’s Boise office.  The Development & Communications Officer will work with the Executive Director to create their in-office schedule upon hiring.

Program Officer

The Idaho Humanities Council, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities located in Boise, Idaho, seeks a full-time (40 hours), Program Officer. This is a two-year position with the possibility of extensions, dependent on continued funding support.

This position will coordinate IHC’s signature events, including the annual Summer Teacher Institute and the Distinguished Humanities Lecture series.  The position will also be central in the development and coordination of IHC’s Human Ties conversation program. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, a believer in the power of education, and dedicated to IHC’s mission.

Description:

  • Works on-site during the institute
  • Oversees the planning and implementation of IHC’s Distinguished Humanities Lecture series in Boise, Idaho Falls, and Coeur d’Alene
  • Coordinates the IHC’s Human Ties conversations program
  • Assists in the coordination of IHC’s Inspiring Idaho program
  • Other duties assigned as needed

Essential skills, duties and responsibilities include:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a humanities discipline
  • Previous non-profit experience preferred
  • Strong computer skills (Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Zoom, and PowerPoint preferred)
  • Experience working with diverse communities, peoples and organizations
  • Service oriented
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to details
  • A desire and ability to work independently, move quickly, but deliberately; to share and receive critical feedback
  • This position requires strong communications between staff, board members, teachers, partners and the public. Understanding these relationships is critical and excellent communication skills are required.
  • Effective writing and editing skills
  • In-state travel, including overnight, required
