Virtual Panel Features 2022 Pulitzer Prize-winner Maria Hinojosa and Veteran Journalist Mark Trahant
IHC announces a special, two-part web series titled “The Changing Face of Media” held on June 2nd and 14th from 6-7:30PM (MDT). Attendees will have the opportunity to join national and regional journalists for two virtual panel discussions on the changing face of media and the essential role that journalism and the humanities play in creating an informed citizenry.
Both panels are free to attend on Zoom, and will be simulcast in Spanish and American Sign Language.
The first panel on June 2nd features 2022 Pulitzer Prize-winner Maria Hinojosa, Anchor and Producer for Latino USA and CEO of Futuro Media. Hinojosa will appear with journalist Mark Trahant, editor-at-large for Indian Country Today and a citizen of the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes.
Hinojosa and Trahant will discuss the theme of “Why Do We See Media as Polarizing?” Hinojosa and her team of editors and producers at Futuro Media recently received the 2022 Pulitzer Prize in audio recording for their seven-part podcast series called Suave. Hinojosa founded the independent, nonprofit newsroom in 2010 with the mission to create multimedia content from a POC perspective. Indian Country Today was revived under Trahant’s leadership, with the digital site now reaching 700,000 people a month and the broadcast carried on two dozen public television stations.
Participants must register through IHC’s Eventbrite page (in ticket info) to receive a Zoom link prior to the event. There will be a Q and A session as part of each panel, and recordings will be available on IHC’s YouTube channel after broadcast.
