Archipedia Idaho: Interpreting Idaho’s Heritage Through Architecture
Speaker: D. Nels Reese
This presentation uses hundreds of images from a national website to illustrate 170 years of Idaho architecture. Reese will discuss relevant sites from the north’s historic Coeur d’Alene Mission to the “House of Light,” Idaho’s State Capitol, en-route to Pocatello’ s historic downtown and tiny Paris’s exquisite tabernacle, built by early Mormon settlers. More than half of Idaho counties are represented in Archipedia: IDAHO, along with 42 Idaho cities. More than 60 of its buildings are on the National Register of Historic Places. The tour includes public buildings, both civic and sacred, along with structures related to Idaho’s first inhabitants, potato cellars of southern Idaho, and pleasure palaces of Coeur d’Alene and Sun Valley. Lectures may be focused on the various regions of the state.
